God Bless The King

Elvis Presley was the king of both Rock ‘n Roll and late-night sandwiches. It’s long been well known that his favorite snack was peanut butter and banana sandwiches grilled in copious amounts of butter. This delicacy also happens to be right up my alley, so I make it periodically, including today.

I only needed about half the banana for my sandwich.

I used to imagine PB&B as featuring sliced bananas, but the proper way to prepare one of these sandwiches is to begin by smashing a banana until it is close to the consistency of baby food.

It’s then just a matter of spreading the peanut butter and banana onto your bread and pan frying it in butter like a grilled cheese.

The amount of butter I used may have disappointed The King, but it was enough to get the job done. I am fairly sure the man with magical hips would have appreciated both the effort and the result.

  1. I always wondered about those. Did they cut a banana in half and plop it on a slice of peanut butter-covered bread or what? Now that I’ve seen it prepared, I might try one of those next time I see one offered. I guess they are everywhere in Memphis.

    1. They use the name for even more items. It’s not unusual to see something like an “Elvis Milkshake” title for a peanut butter and banana milkshake.

It’s very good, not to mention easy and inexpensive to prepare.
