Before Covid interrupted, I had a nice routine of a couple long weekend road trips and one longer trip – that sometimes involved flying – per year. I would also spend a lot of time before-hand laying out where I would eat on these trips.
They were not touristy vacations. I prefer driving around flyover country in search of small towns that still have a personality, finding restaurants in the middle of nowhere, or visiting and exploring the food scene of a rust-belt city to lying on a beach in Florida or on a tropical island.
I would take photos of what I ate on the trips and then write a “Trip Report” for a now defunct message board populated by others with my obsession for regional foods around the United States. This went on for years until the board was taken down by the sites new owners and all of us who had put a lot of time into writing our trip reports lost them forever.
I still have the photos from most of those trips, but it’s going to be a chore to remember all of the details. Trying to do so in order to recreate those trip reports is one of the reasons I have created this blog. Learning to blog and operate a web site is another.
